Evidence of mice
We had no idea mice liked toothpaste.
But we knew we didn't like mice.

Winter, 1999:

Loading the trapWe showed our family our ruined toothpaste tubes, and they dusted off their mouse trap.

But before you think this is that "better mouse trap" we've all been searching for, consider the work it takes to load this thing.

You put the bait down in the holes, then hold down the spring with one hand and with your other two hands use a needle to put some thread through the two holes in the bottom. Then tie down the spring with a secure double knot.

The thread forms a barrier to the bait. The mouse has to chew through the thread which releases the spring which lifts the noose which strangles the mouse.

BeforeAfter

We don't like killing things, but we like it when there's less mice about.

Strangled mice

This slaughter is accomplished totally by strangulation.

It's not a pretty sound in the middle of the night.

Cat catching

There's a family member who gives no concern about the killing.

The morning after every catch, we make him very happy.

Chowing down

Yum.
